modern day mark 12:41-43

yesterday, my parents and i were talking about reaching my financial support goal for this summer's east asia short term missions trip. my brother was also there, listening to the discipline of praying towards this goal (one of daddy's sermons again. haha). my dad then told him nonchalantly that i still had not reached my goal and was slightly discouraged. jason then dissappeared while my parents and i went on to talk about other matters.

after a few minutes, he walked into my room with $3.50 in his hand, and said, "here crystal. here is some money for your trip."

i bet jesus would have said, "I tell you the truth, Jason has put more into my kingdom than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but he, out of his heart, put in everything--all he had saved in his lifetime."  (new jason version)

true example of how God uses the least of these to show us the glory of His Name.

.pre-urbana 2006.

when i signed up to go to urbana this year, i never imagined that i would be so broken before i went. i wanted to be renewed and refreshed before i go. to be ready to receive the mission brought before me.

however, God has been teaching me that i am broken myself. that i am desperate need of mercy and grace. perhaps He is bringing me to urbana to be healed myself. that He uses those who are broken, those who need healing, to also heal those who are suffering. it is because of this brokenness that i need to be healed by His grace and His love. this healing process amazes me as i see the passion God has for the world. the world suffers so much more than what i am feeling....and God wants to heal them all. He wants to bring "peace to our madness" and "comfort to our sadness."

i pray that i will be renewed by His spirit as I experience the passion God has for His people and the advancement of His kingdom. i want to be transformed by the renewing of the mind so that i may be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

may we all recognize the urgency and the importance of God's saving grace:
" for 'anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' but how can they call on him so save them unless they believe in him? and how can they believe in him if they have neevr heard about him? and how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? and how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? that is what the scriptures mean when they say, 'how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!' every christmas morning, i usually read parts of the gospel to remind me of the story of Christmas. today, i read micah. i guess i never really grasped the prophecy of the birth of Jesus...but to think that the coming of the savior of the world was prophesized many many years before His birth! how awesome it must have been when Jesus finally came to Earth! a prophecy fulfilled. a promise delivered. salvation for all.

from the new living translation (it speaks to the heart! read it =)...

micah 5:2-5

"but you, O bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village in Judah. yet a RULER of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past. the people of Israel will be abandoned to their enemies until the time when the woman in labor gives birth to her son. then at last his fellow countrymen will return from exile to their own land and he will stand to LEAD HIS FLOCK with the Lord's strength, in the MAJESTY of the NAME of the LORD his God. then HIS PEOPLE will live there undisturbed, for he will be HIGHLY HONORED ALL AROUND THE WORLD.  and he will THE SOURCE OF OUR PEACE."

i always love to think of Christmas as a time of thanksgiving, joy, and peace. and although things in our life might blur the picture of a "perfect holiday season," we can never forget the glory of His coming. celebration is in session...it has been for many years =) merry christmas and may you proclaim Christ's glory as you celebrate His love and passion for the world.

ephesians 5:19-20

speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving THANKS to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord JESUS CHRIST.
